Saughton Mains Residents Association

Summer Fayre Day: Saturday 30th August 2008

Saughton Mains Residents Association has been organising an annual community fayre now for several years as a means of bringing both our community and also our neighbouring communities together.  Each year we try to provide something for all ages and amongst last years attractions were a pipe band, children's fairground rides and bouncy castle, also various stalls which included a tombola, home baking and face painting.  For the first time we had a children’s magician and this proved to be extremely popular especially with the younger children!

Our fayre day last year was held on Saturday 30th August and we would like to thank everybody who came along and helped to make the day so enjoyable.  The weather wasn't too bad either, considering what the month of August had been like, and despite a couple of small showers, the turnout was very good. We are also lucky that our events are always well supported by the Police and Fire Services as well as local businesses.

Fun day with lots to do!
Having fun with face painting and balloons at the Community Fayre Day!

We decided to only use Stenhouse Primary school rather than split it as we usually do  between Carrickvale Community centre and the school, hopefully this made it easier for everyone to view the demonstrations and participate in any of the other attractions as well. All of our stalls were inside the school and as usual they proved to be very popular, with only some books being left at the end of the day. These were boxed up and delivered to one of the local charity shops so nothing went to waste.

We had a fantastic time organising the fayre and hope that everyone who came along enjoyed it as much as we did. Our thanks to all the local businesses who donated gifts and prizes (we couldn’t do this without your help) and special thanks to all residents who helped by supporting the fayre.

Pensioners Xmas Party: 6th December 2008

From monies raised at previous fayre days we put on a Pensioners Xmas Party on Saturday 6th December which was again held in the primary school and all the pensioners hopefully enjoyed themselves. There was a cabaret act and a magician and music show along with a buffet.

A big cheer from all!

Christmas Party donations

We were also able to give the school a donation towards their Christmas parties and we received some lovely thank you letters from the children afterwards telling us how much they enjoyed themselves. The Primary 7’s went to the cinema and the younger children had their parties in the school.

This year, we have decided to hold our fayre on Saturday 29th August year and
we will publicise further information nearer the time. Hopefully the turnout will be
as good this year as on previous fayre days.
