News
We'll let you know the news and issues for your area but please get
in touch if there's something we should report or investigate.
Newly created Safer Neighbourhood Teams are community beat police officers and local and national government funded officers working alongside City of Edinburgh Council Community Safety teams.
We regularly update our Noticeboards (located at Stenhouse Drive
and Stenhouse Cross) - a Noticeboard for the Whitson area
doesn't exist yet.
Priority Pavement Gritting and Clearance Routes
The South West's Neighbourhood Teams have been doing a lot of work with the citywide teams over the past months to improve the overall response to any severe winter weather in Edinburgh, such as the snow fall we experienced last winter. Part of their work has been identifying and reviewing Footway categories and routes in the South West area for our local snow clearance and gritting squads.
Priority footways are those that have been identified as having a high level of usage or provide access to priority locations as identified by local residents through our consultations. By "priority locations" we mean such things as schools, hospitals, medical facilities, care homes, blood transfusion centres, bus depots and the like.
For details of priority routes in our neighbourhood and the rest of South West Edinburgh visit the Neighbourhood Partnership website.

Dog Fouling
Thank you to the majority of dog owners who remove their dog’s pooh in a responsible way! Apart from being a messy nuisance, it proves a considerable health risk, especially to children. You can report dog fouling to the Council Environmental Wardens on 0131 527 3817 or 0131 529 3422.

Stenhouse Primary School
P6 Lagganlia Visit
Visited in February and the snow was brilliant and fun to play in.
The instructors are very kind. They are also very experienced. Since it had snowed, we had a chance to do cross country skiing. Other activities we did included snowboarding, skiing, hiking, archery and rock climbing, as well as night activities.
Choir
On Thursday 26th of February we spent the morning at St Cuthbert’s Church singing in the Edinburgh Festival of Music Speech and Dance. We entered into three classes; Scots Songs, Hymn Singing and Primary School Choirs.
We came second in two classes and first in the Scots Song competition. We have the ‘William Baird’ trophy to display for a year.
Although only the choir members performed, their success reflects the quality of singing across the whole school.

PC Neil Doig MBE
The Jane’s Police Review Gala Awards are the most prestigious and high-profile of their kind for recognising excellence in police forces across the whole of the United Kingdom. The winners were announced at their dinner on Thursday 13th November 2008 at The Royal Horticultural Halls in London.
We are very proud that PC Neil Doig, one of our Community Beat Officers, was nominated for The Community Police Officer of the Year Award. Although not a winner this time, impressively he was one of only two officers nominated (from the whole Scottish police force!).

Saughton Mains Residents Association
Summer Fayre Day : Saturday 30th August 2008
Saughton Mains Residents Association has been organising an annual community fayre now for several years as a means of bringing both our community and also our neighbouring communities together.
Each year we try to provide something for all ages and amongst last years attractions were a pipe band, children's fairground rides and bouncy castle, also various stalls which included a tombola, home baking and face painting. For the first time we had a children’s magician and this proved to be extremely popular especially with the younger children!
Pensioners Xmas Party: Saturday 6th December
From monies raised at previous fayre days we put on a Pensioners Xmas Party which was again held in the primary school and all the pensioners hopefully enjoyed themselves.
Christmas Party donations
We were also able to give the school a donation towards their Christmas parties and we received some lovely thank you letters from the children afterwards telling us how much they enjoyed themselves. The Primary 7’s went to the cinema and the younger children had their parties in the school.

Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival inspires Scotland
THE first Scottish Golden Oldies Rugby Festival is to take place this year – due to the popularity of a similar event in Edinburgh last summer.
More than 3000 fans and players from all over the world descended on the Capital for the 17th Air New Zealand World Golden Oldies Rugby Festival, with 18 countries taking part, including sixteen new Scottish Teams.
And now, following a meeting with organisers, the first truly Scottish event of this kind will take place on April 18 at Kirkcaldy RFC.
[Festival ambassador Gavin Hastings said: "the city already has a passion for the sport and people around the world have a passion for Edinburgh. The combination was a real recipe for success." ]
