New Bus Routes to Hermiston Gait - Numbers 2 and 20 bus services |
Route and timetable information: Number 2 bus and Number 20 bus (click to find out more) Edinburgh Council’s Transport, Infrastructure and Environment Committee met on 28th July and confirmed that two buses (Numbers 2 and 20) will now go to Hermiston Gait. As neither of these buses - nor any other bus - passes the two Health Centres, we raised our objection (via deputation). There are three Community Councils whose local residents are affected by the decision not to have buses service Whinpark, and Sighthill, Health Centres. They are ourselves; Sighthill, Broomhouse and Parkhead CC; and Longstone CC. We support each other in our efforts to amend this decision. The Convenor of Edinburgh Council’s Transport, Infrastructure and Environment Committee supported our deputation as did our local Councillors Donald Wilson and Nick Elliott-Canon who are members of the Committee - along with Councillor Andrew Burns (deputising for Maureen Child). Below is image showing Stenhouse Community Council's proposed amended route for the Number 2 bus service. Green line shows actual bus route, and Red line shows the route we proposed. After our discussions with SBPCC (Sighthill, Broomhouse and Parkhead Community Council) it was proposed that "every second (Number 2) bus LEAVING Hermiston Gait travels along Bankhead Avenue, then Calder Road, then down Saughton Road (ie. to go past both Health Centres)." This is still not the most ideal solution as it means residents from our area would have to travel to Hermiston Gait before accessing the Health Centres and it would be a half-hourly service. The Convenor of Edinburgh Council’s Transport, Infrastructure and Environment Committee has sent a letter to Lothian Buses to suggest this proposed route amendment. The Number 2 bus service is run as on a commercial basis and therefore any decisions made to its route / timetable must be wholly agreed by Lothian Buses. We'll keep you updated on our progress.
