What we do
| * |
give local residents an opportunity to speak out on local issues |
| * |
put forward the views of the community to the City Council and other organisations |
| * |
represent the community's view on Neighbourhood Partnerships |
| * |
act as a vital link between the Council and the local area |
| * |
act as a focal point for smaller groups in representing the community |
| * |
campaign and raise awareness of issues affecting the community |
| * |
influence many areas including local planning applications, transport, community safety, amenity and licensing matters |
| * |
organise community events |
Community councils were introduced through the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 and have certain statutory roles and powers. Local Councils are required by law to set up a scheme to allow the establishment of community councils. Ultimately, it is entirely a matter for any community to decide if they want a community council in their area.
What area we cover
We represent the views of those residing within Stenhouse, Saughton Mains, and Whitson. More information.
